A family member gave me Pikka in February as he was unhappy and stressed from his living situation. They warned me that Pikka had been chronically peeing outside the litter box, sometimes even in the bed. They mentioned it being behavioral because of the other cat. I accepted to adopt him as i knew i could offer him plenty of presence, love and my cats would warm up to him (which they have).
As soon as he arrived, i noticed blood in his urine. At that moment, i knew it couldn't just be behavioral. I questioned the previous owners and they mentioned it had happened the previous year and went back to normal afterwards. Not having the funds to bring him to the vet, i did my research and suspected FIC (Feline Idiopathic Cystitis) which is chronic and triggered by stess. I made sure to monitor him, he remained playful, eats normal, drinks water, passes urine and stool normally. I placed litters in every room of the house and that was enough to make him stop peeing outside the litter. He still pees in the bathtub, but never elsewhere.
I was hoping time and love would be enough to heal him, but now, two months later, he still has blood in his urine on a daily. I can tell he experiences some sort of pain, it seems to come in waves, where he will frequently go in the litter to pee a few drops of blood and miaule. Apart from that, nothing has degraded, he remains happy, playful and able to eat, drink, poop, pee normally.
I've been putting off the vet as i know they will need to do many exams to get to the bottom of this, and i simply don't have the funds. But my heart breaks to see him suffer and I need to take action to get him back to his optimal health. He is only 4 y/o and still has so much life to live. On top of being such an amazing, lovely and sweet boy.
I'm hoping to receive enough donations to pay for some of the initial exams. Fingers crossed that the solution is simple. I will add updates when i have some.
