If you know anything about Neil, you know that he absolutely loves animals especially his pets. Sometimes I think he can communicate better with animals than humans. But Piggy is his heart and soul. They are bonded and you cant have one without the other.
Saturday afternoon hit us like a ton of bricks. Our sweet Pigpen "Piggy" started acting off. She wouldn't drink, eat, she acted lethargic and appeared more frail. We immediately took her to the emergency vet hospital where they did all the works to check out what was going on with her. She had a fever of 104.5, she was 6-7% dehydrated, and definitely lost some weight which is a huge deal because she is a tiny baby.
The next step was to the get an ultra sound of her body. Everything looked fine until the Doctor looked at her heart and noticed a large amount of fluid. The look on his face was worrisome, he suggested we immediately drain the fluid from her chest and test it for bacteria so we did just that.
Unfortunately it did in fact have traces of bacteria so we immediately got her on heavy antibiotics. Her fever broke and her hydration was great after a day of fluids. She still wouldn't eat and was having labored breath so the doctors once again did an ultrasound, found more fluid and pulled that out from her chest.
The vet ER we were at is strictly a weekend set up and closed during the week. Piggy was not out of the woods so the doctor highly suggested we go to an emergency specialist and sent us to a place in Portland. We raced home, packed our bags, hugged our animals, cried, slept for 2 hours and then proceeded to get back on the road, scoop Piggy up and head north.
The specialist here are saying she has pyothorax which is when bacteria enter the pleural cavity. So she will once again be put on heavy antibiotics, oxygen to help her labored breath and ports on each side of the ribs to drain the rest of the fluid in her chest. This has all come as such a surprise due to Miss Piggy being a pretty consistent cat health wise.
We are 5 hours from home, with a serious medical bill about to be brought upon us. So I ask, no, I beg you if you're reading this to consider donating or sharing or praying to saving this sweet baby who still has so much life to live.
It is incredibly painful to see her like this, but she is SO strong. She is our little fighter and we pray everyday she continues to fight like hell so we can bring her home soon enough. The doctors are saying a minimum of a 3 day stay. Bills are stacking up, but we would do anything for our animals. So to all my friends, family, community members and even strangers, please consider donating. I know life is tight for many so a share of this post or a prayer means everything.
Thank you so much for taking the time to read this and if you have kitties, give them a big hug and lots of love in the name of Piggy. ❤️
