Help Pietro Albani Fight Cancer and Recover

Hello, my name is Pamela Albani Cifuentes de Reker and I would like to share the recent story and the health situation of our father, Pietro Nicola Albani Reyes.

On July 10th of this year he needed an emergency operation to have a pacemaker put in because his heart was failing. Then in August he underwent surgery for a neck biopsy (surgery was the only option due to his masses in the aorta and cava arteries). The insurance company had been treating him since January of this year for throat conditions and swollen lymph nodes. When the results of the biopsy came back positive, more in-depth studies were done and unfortunately he was diagnosed with squamous cell carcinoma type 4 B. Located in the tongue, neck and clavicle. Based on the results, the insurance told us that they do not cover anything related to cancer and he would have to pay for the entire treatment on his own.

Thank God he was admitted and has been treated at INCAN, a hospital in Guatemala City. He was undergoing chemotherapy and radiation and has received 34th out of 35 radiotherapy sessions. He recently collapsed in the bathroom and was taken by ambulance to the insurance hospital due to his fall. He was admitted into intensive care for 8 days, even though he was admitted for a fall, the insurance did not cover anything and he was diagnosed in the hospital with pneumonia, staphylococcus and influenza type A. He also contracted a stomach bug that has led to dehydration. After a series of conversations with the insurance, the insurance did not want to cover anything, and indicated that all of this was a consequence of his cancer.

With all of the above, we have had quite large expenses, and despite having medical insurance, they no longer cover anything related to his diabetes because it is a pre-existing disease, with his heart because he has a pacemaker and now with his cancer.

Unfortunately, the insurance that my Dad has in Guatemala does not support patients with such serious illnesses as those he was diagnosed with.

Today he is already at home with in home intensive care, this is incurring indefinite expenses. Visits from the pulmonologist who is monitoring him at home, series of medications, constant tests, oxygenation for at least 3 months 24/7, oral serum, Glucerna (since he cannot eat solid food at the moment), and doctors who are monitoring him with everything related to his pneumonia, hydration and decompensation of his diabetes (insulin-dependent patient) and general health status. Because of his pneumonia and the consequences of radiation, he cannot speak because his voice is very low but if you call him on his cell phone he can hear you. When he recovers a little from his delicate state of health and he no longer requires in home intensive care, he will begin speech therapy and physical therapy so that he can be the same Pietro as always.

We know that his recovery will take time, the doctor told us that it could be from 3 to 6 months. We sincerely appreciate all your prayers and displays of affection. At this time, any donation, no matter how small, will add up and will help us with the constant payments we are having and the payment agreement we had to make with the hospital.

Comentándoles por éste medio la situación de salud de nuestro padre Pietro Nicola Albani Reyes.

El día 10 de Julio del 2024, tuvo una operación de emergencia y se colocó un marcapaso ya que su marcapaso natural le dejó de funcionar. Luego en Agosto entró a operación para biopsia de cuello (operación fue la única opción por tener sus masas en la arterias aorta y cava). El seguro lo estaba tratándo desde Enero del presente año por afecciones de garganta y ganglios inflamados. La biopsia dió positiva, luego se hicieron exámenes más profundos y lamentablemente fue diagnosticado con cáncer escamoso tipo 4 B; localizado en lengua, cuello y clavícula, por su resultado el seguro nos indicó que ellos no cubren nada relacionado con cáncer.

Gracias a Dios ha sido tratado en el INCAN, en su radioterapia número 34 de un total de 35, colapsó en el baño y se llevó de inmediato en ambulancia al hospital del seguro, dónde estuvo ingresado por 8 días, a pesar de que entró por una caída, el seguro no cubrió nada y le diagnosticaron en el hospital neumonía, estafilococo e influenza tipo A, le pegaron una bacteria estomacal que se transmite en hospitales. Luego de una serie de conversaciones con el seguro, decidieron no cubrir nada, he indicaron que todo ésto fué a consecuencia de su cáncer.

Con todo lo indicado hemos tenido gastos bastante grandes, y a pesar de tenerle seguro médico ya no cubren nada relacionado con su diabetes por ser enfermedad pre existente, con su corazón porque tiene marcapaso y ahora con su cáncer.

Lamentablemente los seguros en Guatemala no apoyan a pacientes con enfermedades tan delicadas como las que tiene mi papá.

El día de hoy ya está en casa con cuidados intensivos, ésto está incurriendo en gastos indefinidos. Visitas de neumólogo que lo está monitoriándo en casa, necesitamos una serie de exámenes constantes, oxigenación mínimo por 3 meses 24 por 7, suero oral, Glucerna (ya que por el momento no puedo comer sólido), terapia de sus pulmones, hidratación y control de su diabetes (paciente dependiente de insulina), y estado de salud en general. A consecuencia de la radiación, se le dificulta hablar. Si lo llaman a su celular el puede escucharlos. Cuando salga de tratamiento intensivo en casa, podrá iniciar terapia de habla y terapia física.

Sabemos que su recuperación va llevar tiempo ya que nos indicó el Doctor que puede ser de 3 a 6 meses. Agradecemos de corazón todas sus oraciones y muestras de cariño.

En este momento cualquier donación por pequeña que sea va sumando y nos ayudará a los pagos constantes que estamos teniéndo y al convenio de pago que tuvimos que hacer con el hospital.
