Hello everyone, my name is Bri - some of you may or may not already know me and the situation I'm about to explain, as I am a content creator and have been sharing my story/updating my community this past week on my cat's medical crisis. Nonetheless, I am the mother of two of the sweetest cats; one being an unforgettable silly little guy named Pierre who has graced my life in ways I can never truly describe. If you have had the pleasure of meeting him, this little purr machine has probably greeted you with not a second to waste. I truly believe Pierre could turn anyone one into a cat person. I have never met anyone who hadn't taken a second to appreciate his sweet nature.
This week I had one of the scariest nights of my life. At around 3AM on February 3rd, Pierre was rushed to the ER where they performed an emergency bladder/urethral obstruction unblockage procedure. They found his bladder in critical condition and needed to act immediately.
Earlier that same day I had taken him to the vet where they performed multiple tests & X-rays. They were quick to charge me hundreds of dollars and to usher us out of the office but had sent me home with little to no information on the severity of his situation. I had come to find out later that the tests they ran were far from relevant to Pierre's situation. What makes this even worse is that Pierre was at the vet for what I believe to have been the beginning stages of this same issue back in December. For both of these instances they have opted to treat him as a UTI patient despite none of his urine tests coming back positive for UTI bacteria. The possibility of Pierre having a blockage, or crystals in his urine, or anything related, was never examined let alone mentioned in our conversations.
After we got home from the vet, I had a horrible sinking feeling all day watching him. I knew in my heart something was truly still wrong. When the evening had come he looked 100% worse than how he was before his vet appointment. He was progressively getting more and more uncomfortable, when suddenly he curled up, shook, and expressed pain in his face I had never seen before. After that I immediately rushed him straight to the ER.
Had I decided to heed the vet's diagnosis and go to sleep early that night, his bladder could've ruptured and losing him would've been my reality.
After his first trip to the ER that night he seemed to be doing much better while Dylan (dillz) and I watched over him around the clock in shifts. He was eating and grooming himself in between the loops of sleep and medicated sedation.
However approximately 48hrs later (5AM this morning) he was rushed back to the ER after I noticed him becoming lethargic once again and urinating less and less. Pierre had to be unblocked a second time and is now hospitalized for the next few days.
With him being away from home for a few days, I now have some time to prepare for the matter of his long-term health; the special diet he will need to have for the rest of his life, adjustments to his lifestyle at home, and the serious consideration of a Perineal Urethrostomy (PU) surgery in the near future.
Unfortunately the 2 emergency ER visits, hospitalization and medical bills have been very overwhelming and all have been paid out of pocket. To those in my community who have already donated or sent us kind words thank you so unbelievably much. Genuinely, if anyone decides to donate or contribute to his medical bills or even our day to day, you have no idea how much this would help.
This GoFundMe will be going towards all of the existing medical bills, everything Pierre would need in his recovery, as well as surgery costs.
Sadly his condition is a very serious and common thing amongst male cats and will require a lifetime of special care. Truly anything helps no matter how small or big.
My heart is flooded and I've barely slept, I have never felt such pain and fear before. I love him so much. Please keep Pierre in your hearts. He is the sweetest boy who rules my world.
Thank you.
Bri
