Help Rebuild Pierre Pierre: A Beacon of Black Excellence in Oakland

On the evening of May 2, 2025, tragedy struck our beloved Pierre Pierre restaurant in downtown Oakland. A senseless shooting inside our establishment left two people injured — a woman and a young man — and shook the foundation of everything we’ve worked to build. Both victims are currently in stable condition, and our hearts and prayers are with them and their families during this difficult time.

Founded in 2023 by Chef Cleashaun Hill, Pierre Pierre was created as more than a restaurant — it was a safe space. A sanctuary for Black excellence. A place where our people could gather, celebrate, dine, and dream in peace. In a city where gentrification, violence, and systemic inequities often silence us, Pierre Pierre stood as a voice — bold, elegant, unapologetically Black.

This past year, we’ve hosted Mother’s Day brunches, free community dinners for youth, charity events, and offered employment to dozens of individuals — many of whom had few other opportunities. We’ve poured our heart, soul, and savings into creating a space for the culture, by the culture.

But in one night, that vision was devastated.

This act of violence didn’t just cause physical damage — it destroyed a part of our future. Now, we are fighting to recover, rebuild, and relocate to a safer environment where our guests and staff can feel protected and free.
