I am an Ohio Licensed Social Worker working as a school-based mental health therapist. I work to support students through emotional, behavioral, and mental health challenges. Several years ago, after witnessing firsthand the incredible impact service dogs had during a HOPE Week activity at our school, I began researching ways to bring that same comfort and connection to the clients and staff I serve every day. Last fall, I applied through an organization out of Columbus (for fundraising purposes I can not name) for a therapy dog candidate, a highly trained dog that did not ultimately continue in advanced service training but still possesses the temperament and skills to make an extraordinary therapy companion. After patiently waiting for the right match, we were introduced to Picasso.

Picasso is a sweet, handsome 2-year-old lab mix who has already become adored by my daughters and seamlessly integrated into our home and family. He is truly the calmest, most well-behaved, and loving dog we have ever had the pleasure of welcoming into our home. As we approach the end of our trial period, we are facing the $3,500 adoption fee needed to officially make Picasso part of our family and continue his journey toward therapy dog certification.

Therapy dogs provide a unique sense of comfort, safety, and connection that can help the clients I serve regulate emotions, reduce anxiety, and feel supported during difficult moments. Picasso also has the ability to support staff who carry the daily stress and emotional weight that comes with caring for individuals and managing the many challenges within a work day. Animals create a level of trust and emotional connection that humans alone sometimes cannot provide. My hope is that Picasso can become a calming presence not only for clients navigating their healing journeys, but also for the staff members who pour so much into caring for others every day. I am seeking support to help cover Picasso’s adoption costs and certification expenses so he can continue this important work alongside me.

Any donation, share, or encouragement means the world to our family and to the clients I serve who will benefit from his presence for years to come. Thank you for helping us give Picasso a forever home and a meaningful purpose helping others heal.
