Help Phthalo beat cancer

Hi, my name is Melissa Young. As anybody who knows me already knows, my dog Phthalo has my entire heart and means more to me than anything in this world. (& for those who don’t know me, his name is pronounced thay-low and is named after the shade of blue)

I adopted Phthalo in September of 2019, and very quickly our situation changed from living with the company of two other wonderful people to just the two of us living alone and leaning on each other, due to covid-related circumstances. As a very sappy and mushy person with an especially soft spot for dogs, I was always bound to latch on deeply to my first canine companion… and he truly became my rock and my life raft during some unexpected and challenging times and has stayed my number one reason for keeping my head up during the hard times that have come up since.

Recently, while trying to get to the bottom of what we thought was some GI issues, we discovered that my sweet boy has free fluid in both his abdomen and chest cavity.

He is still in and out of Tufts Veterinary for testing to figure out the cause, but they believe it to most likely be from cancer. He is going in for his third visit this week on Friday and may need biopsy on his stomach depending on the results from the tests being run today. As the veterinary staff is still in the dark as to the exact issue, I am unsure as to what donation goal to set as I don’t yet know what treatment he will require.

The testing we had already done is unfortunately, rather quickly approaching near the ends of my personal financial resources, which is why I have made the uncomfortable decision to turn to gofundme, as it is still such a big question mark as to what further testing will be needed and what treatment plans we will be looking at. Updates will be posted as results come in and the goal may change with further insight on what sort of treatment options we are facing.

The only thing that I know at this point is that I don’t want to imagine a world without him.
