Phoutsavang Thammavongsa has been farming in the Waialua area of Oahu since 2009, cultivating five acres of sugarcane, flowers for lei, papaya, and a variety of fruits. His farm is not just a business—it’s home to his parents, his wife, and their two children, ages 13 and 15, both of whom have grown up learning to steward the land just as their father does. The family depends on the land for their livelihoods, often working late nights and early mornings to care for their crops that sustain them and their community. They are often at weekly swap meets and the KCC Farmers Market to provide for their community, who in turn, help to provide for their family.
In March 2026, the Kona Low Storm brought devastating floods to the region, severely impacting Phoutsavang’s farm. The storm shorted out his tractor, generators, saw, and building equipment, while water pumps and crop sprays became unusable. The storm also damaged his sugarcane machine, used to process the crop for juice and fruit when he vends at farmers markets. With so much of the farm’s essential infrastructure damaged, the family faces urgent challenges in maintaining their crops and caring for their animals.
The funds raised through this campaign will go directly to Phoutsavang and his family, helping them with urgent & immediate expenses. Every donation, no matter the size, will make a meaningful difference as they work to recover and rebuild what has taken years to cultivate. Phoutsavang is deeply appreciative of any support from the community, and your kindness will help his family get back on their feet.
This GoFundMe was created by the volunteers from Help Maui Rise and will directly benefit Phoutsavang and his family.
