Help Phoebe Recover from Life-Saving Surgery

Hi everyone,

This is incredibly hard for me to write, but I'm reaching out about my labradoodle, Phoebe. She recently needed an emergent, life-saving surgery. The surgery went well, but the cost came to over $20,000, which has been overwhelming to manage on my own. It felt crazy agreeing to pay that much money, but she really has been my best friend over the last 3 years. I couldn’t imagine coming home from work without Pheebs greeting me with her little happy dance when she sees me.

On Monday 4/21 I noticed some unusual behavior from Phoebe. I decided to take her to the Blue Pearl Emergency Animal Hospital on the Upper West Side in NYC where they did some diagnostics and decided she needed to be transferred to Schwarzman Animal Medical Center across town for emergency surgery. She was diagnosed with a septic abdomen and needed an emergent ex-lap. She was already in septic shock, and was maxed on dopamine, epi, and vaso (for my nursing friends iykyk) during surgery, and required pressors afterwards. Her post op course was complicated by a grand mal seizure and several heart arrhythmias. The critical care team told me she was one of the sickest dogs they’d seen in weeks. She’s now home and improving every day, but is still on quite a bit of medication.

I was able to pay around 9 thousand dollars upfront between the two hospitals, but the remaining bill is still around 13 thousand dollars. The hospital made an exception because of how sick Phoebe is and provided me with a payment plan, but only over the course of 3 months, so a little over $4,000 a month which is honestly just not attainable for me.

I know times are tough for everyone right now, but any contribution would go directly to Phoebe’s medical expenses to help us get back on our feet.
