As many of you know, Phoebe is our beloved furbaby. Over the weekend, she suddenly wasn’t acting like herself. She seemed to be in pain, so I took her to the vet early Saturday morning. Her condition worsened throughout the day, prompting a second visit. After an X-ray, they discovered a pleural effusion—fluid around her lungs. They drained the fluid and kept her overnight for close monitoring.
Though she did okay overnight, the fluid returned, and she needed another thoracentesis. The vet team recommended she stay through the weekend to be evaluated by an internal medicine first thing Monday morning.
This morning, the specialist recommended a CT scan, which revealed the cause of everything: a lung lobe torsion—a rare and serious condition. Phoebe is undergoing emergency surgery today and will need to stay hospitalized for 2–3 more days to recover.
Thankfully, Phoebe has pet insurance, but I’m responsible for 20% of her medical costs—plus upfront payments before insurance reimburses. The costs have added up quickly, and we’re doing everything we can to give her the best chance at a full recovery.
Any amount you can give, or even just sharing this, means more than we can say. Thank you for loving Phoebe with us.
