My name is Phillipia, and for many years I dedicated my life to caring for others, especially those with mental and physical challenges. I always took pride in being someone others could depend on, never imagining I’d one day be in a position where I’d need to ask for help myself. But now, at 62, I’m facing severe osteoarthritis that has taken away my independence and made even the simplest daily tasks a struggle.
I need two hip replacements and a knee replacement, but the specialists who can truly help me only accept cash payments and don’t take Medicaid. My insurance is limited, and my social security income doesn’t come close to covering the costs. Every day, my mobility gets worse. I can’t bend over to put on my shoes, stand or sit for long, or even cook a meal. I’ve lost the ability to enjoy time with my grandchildren and rarely leave my room because moving around my house is so difficult and dangerous. I’ve already fallen once due to the steps in my home, and I worry constantly about my safety.
I’m hoping to raise funds for both the medical care I desperately need and to move into a safer, fully accessible home. My current house has steps in the kitchen and living room that are hazardous, and I need a place that’s all on one level, with features like grab bars in the shower to help prevent falls. It’s hard for me to ask for help, but I know I can’t do this alone. Any support will help me regain my independence, improve my quality of life, and allow me to enjoy time with my family again. Thank you for reading my story and considering a donation.
