Hello,
my name is Phillip. My partner and I are setting this fundraiser up for our 5-6 year old chihuahua mix bandit. On 12/26/2024 we had a mobile vet visit our home to renew bandit’s vaccination as well as for a check up as he was not acting as his normal energetic self. There was a at Home Screen done on bandit for leptospirosis, in which he tested positive for, blood had been drawn and sent to the lab for confirmation at that time, I couldn’t sleep as I was waiting for our pharmacy to get back to me about bandit’s prescription of doxycycline. And at 7 am 12/27/2024 I received a urgent email from our vet in which he stated

Good Morning,

I reviewed Bandit's lab results this morning. They show some pronounced elevations in kidney values that are consistent with Leptospirosis. He is suffering acute kidney injury. This can be life-threatening if not reversed. I recommend that he be hospitalized on IV fluids to flush and support his kidneys as he battles the leptospirosis infection. I recommend taking him to Urgent Pet Care for this treatment. This treatment will give him the best chance of recovery of kidney function. I have attached his records and labs to this email so that you can share them with Urgent Pet Care. I will call you to go over these results as well. Feel free to contact me with any questions.

and so I called urgent pet care at 8 am as soon as they opened and made an emergency appointment for bandit. And we rushed him to the hospital.

after meeting with a veterinarian at the hospital they informed us that everything lines up with leptospirosis as well as it could spread to people as it’s zoonotic, so they outlined a plan to get bandit on IV fluids and antibiotics as well as to continue to monitor everything for 48-72 hours

regardless of this bandit has a 50/50 chance of survival, today has been extremely rough. We had no choice but to sign the paper work for a treatment plan. Which we can not afford. Let alone we have to clean my entire home thoroughly as the bacteria that can cause leptospirosis can last for up to three months on surfaces.

we are looking at anywhere from 3400-5000+ dollars for bandits care. And honestly anything helps.

we are not the type of people to ask for help

we never have. But we need help to give my boy the best chance for survival. He came into our life shortly after my partner miscarried twins and the loss of a family member in 2019, this dog means the world to us He is a family member and a friend. As well as pretty much a son to us.

please help us with the cost of bandits care. It would be greatly appreciated and would make this hard time a lot less stressful.

i understand that we may still lose our buddy.

I’m hoping and praying that we wont

we miss him so much already. We couldn’t imagine being without him

our home has been devoid of love and energy that bandit provided for the last 14 hours It’s cold and quiet. And it’s tearing us up inside.

again anything would help tremendously

thank you for your time. Your consideration and any thoughts you may have towards bandit’s recovery

any funds donated will be used to pay bandit’s medical costs.
