to help raise funds for the women and children evacuees who are affected by the conflict in Marawi City in Mindanao region in the southern part of the Philippines.
On May 23, 2017, Islamic-State inspired Maute Group staged and attacked Marawi City. This conflict has displaced more than 200,000 minority Muslim Maranaos resulting in fatalities close to a hundred including 19 civilians. Continuous artillery and aerial offensives have reduced the city into rubbles. Martial law in Mindanao region was also declared as security forces remain heavily engaged in firefight with Islamic militants who are taking refuge in mosques with civilian hostages.
While the military timeline to end the crisis is still uncertain, evacuees are getting ill and dying in cramped and unsanitary evacuation centers as civilians are not yet permitted to return to their homes. Relief assistance from the government and private sectors including international organizations are there but not enough to serve everyone. Thousands of families are in the evacuation shelters continue to rely on outside assistance for their daily access to food and other basic items such as safe drinking water including medical supplies.
Our shameless goal with you is to raise $5,000. Your donation will help provide vital relief to women and children who are devastated by the armed conflict in the Philippines. For as little as $20, you can provide food items, clean water, hygiene kits, and medical supplies for a mother with two children. We will really be grateful if you help us reach our goal by donating any amount to help mitigate the burden of our fellow human beings who are most vulnerable during this time and who may have nothing to return to once the crisis is over. All proceeds generated from this campaign will go to local non-government organizations that are at the forefront of relief and humanitarian efforts in the area. Rest assured that we will continue to update you of how your hard earned contributions were spent.
Funds will be sent to my friend, Hyro Domado via MoneyGram, who is currently based in the Philippines who have extensive experience working with non-government organizations in Mindanao. For this fundraising campaign, she will deposit the funds to the account a local non-organization in Mindanao that actively operates in Marawi City since the organization does not have a dollar account. The name of the organization is Reconciliatory Initiatives for Development Opportunities, Inc. or RIDO.
RIDO is actively engaged in implementing conflict management and community-based projects in Marawi city and its neighboring areas. Based on consultations, RIDO, Inc. will update and provide reports on how the funds were spent through Hyro Domado.
