Our dad, Philip Anderson, set out for the adventure of a lifetime — hiking the Salkantay Trail in Peru in pursuit of seeing the breathtaking Machu Picchu. What began as a dream trip quickly turned into a life-changing ordeal.
While in Peru, Philip was involved in a horseback riding accident and sustained a severe neck fracture. He was med-evacked from Cusco to a hospital in Lima. After running several tests, he was told that he was centimeters from being paralyzed and needed immediate surgery. Philip underwent successful surgery to stabilize his neck — doctors placed six screws in his spine to protect his spinal cord and aid in his recovery.
Philip now faces a long road ahead. Even after leaving the hospital, he will need to remain in Peru until he’s physically strong enough to safely fly back home — which doctors hope will be by September.
Although he has trip insurance, the costs for surgery, post-operative care, and an extended stay in Peru will far exceed his coverage. In addition to these expenses, there are significant costs for family members to remain by his side throughout this recovery period, ensuring he has the support and care he needs far from home.
We are asking for help to raise $50,000 to cover:
• Uncovered medical expenses from surgery and hospital care
• Recovery and rehabilitation costs in Peru
• Travel, lodging, and meals during the extended stay
• Specialized travel arrangements to get Philip home safely
• Lodging and travel expenses for family members staying with him during recovery
Our family is incredibly grateful for every prayer, donation, and share. If you know my dad, you know his adventurous spirit, kind heart, and willingness to help others. Now, he’s the one in need of a helping hand.
Every contribution — no matter the size — will make a difference in helping Philip heal, recover, and return home.
Thank you for your kindness, generosity, and support during this difficult time.
