Help Phil Hurley on his road to recovery
Donation protected
The Hurley’s are no strangers to the community of Carbonear, and surrounding areas. Phil and Susan, are the parents to 3 beautiful children, and have made careers out of helping children; from providing childcare to providing student support assistance in the education system. Susan and Phil have always provided support to families, the school, the church, the Knights of Columbus and the community. From hosting Camp Delight for children affected by cancer, to initiating fundraisers to help families with their sick kids, the Hurleys always take an initiative to help others. The amount of volunteer hours they spend helping others, goes far beyond what some of us could ever do.
From a personal experience, the Hurleys stepped up to provide financial support to me and my family when our daughter was diagnosed with a terminal disease. Phil was quick to contact us with the idea of a breakfast fundraiser, while Susan sold tickets on items donated by a crafty local resident.
Now it’s our turn to return the favour...
As many of you are aware (or unaware), Phil was admitted to hospital on October 27, 2023. He had a serious infection which required him to be hospitalized to receive a 6 week regimen of heavy antibiotics. Now that the course of meds is nearing completion, Phil will be facing a life changing surgery. He will be having surgery to amputate his right leg just below the knee. With the surgery happening now, the hope is that he can be home for Christmas. Once released, he will be facing a long road of recovery before being able to return to work. The doctors estimate this to be about one year.
As you can imagine, this will come with great financial worries. He has applied for EI for medical reasons, but we all know that is short term and only a portion of a regular pay cheque. In addition, Susan will need to take time off work to care for him. Any savings they have will be exhausted trying to keep up with their regular monthly bills, which show up no matter what your life situation is. Then add the additional expenses of Phil’s medical care that they will now be facing.
We know from personal experience, that the world keeps turning no matter what life throws at you. When faced with medical issues, travel to appointments, therapy, etc. It requires extra finances. Gas (which is quite costly these days), having to eat while on the road, and the upkeep of a vehicle to get you back and forth to these appointments.
Now that the tables have turned, it’s our turn to help them. Any donation you can provide to help get them through this, is greatly appreciated. No donation is too small.
And in fine Phil style with a positive attitude, he is ready to take this on. But he can’t do it alone.
Your support is greatly appreciated!
Thank you.
