Help Phil & Elaine Hughes rebuild their home after wildfire
Donation protected
My grandparents, Phil and Elaine Hughes, had their whole world turned upside down. On July 25, 2024, they were evacuated from their home because of a very fast-moving fire. Less than an hour after they walked out of their front door, their home and outbuildings were engulfed in flames. With how fast this fire moved, nobody had any time to prepare and they made it out with just a handful of clothes. Now, they are left with nothing.
Phil and Elaine both retired from Clearwater Paper (formerly Potlatch) and were enjoying their quiet life in their home in the country, surrounded by their cows, chickens, and even some stray cats that they had taken to caring for. They had a massive garden and always shared their produce with family and friends. Elaine is a kind, caring woman that is always there for her family, and has worked hard her entire life. Phil is the guy that will show up and help with anything and everything, and if you needed something, he probably had it somewhere in his collection of odds and ends. They have both worked hard so they would never have to ask for help, even though they are usually the first ones there when others needed help. Not only have they lost their home and all of their belongings, they lost the things that bring them joy. They are both in shock and don't know what to do with themselves. Well, now I am asking for help for them. We would like to be able to rebuild something simple and easy for them to maintain so they can go back to enjoying their retirement. Currently, they are staying with some amazing friends that are making sure they feel right at home.
Thank you to everyone that has reached out, and sent prayers and well wishes their way. Any and all donations are greatly appreciated, as well as shares. Thank you all so very much. I will post updates as they happen, but this can be a slow process at times.
