Hello I am doing this for Phil Caliendo , a good friend of mine who has fallen on hard times,..... this is Phil's words August of 2021
I lost my eyesight and the ability to stand up. I went to the ER and was admitted for testing. The MRI came back and they said I had a stroke. They sent me home and told me you will get better over time. I was put on high blood pressure medicine, stroke medicine, cholesterol medicine. 8 Medicine total for 4 months. I did not get any better, in fact I continued to slowly get worse.3 hospital visits and 3 MRI later Still confirmed to me I had one small stroke and a major stroke. Nov. 24, I fell as I passed out completely when i was walking in the house. Went to Dr. They sent me to the ER. Was admitted immediately. My blood pressure was so low they could not find it and were afraid I would pass out any second. They sent me for another MRI that night and the next morning A new Neurologist came into my hospital room and told me they had misdiagnosed me and I did not have 2 strokes. I actually had a brain aneurysm. I had swelling on my brain, 2 blood clots, 2 damaged arteries and 2 damaged veins in my brain causing all these symptoms. They did not know how I was still alive and immediately asked The head Neurologist in Mount Sinai hospital in Miami for his opinion since they specialized in very difficult cases as mine was. It took 5 days but I was finally transported to Miami Mount Sinai hospital. The next morning I was taken into surgery where they performed a 6 hour emergency operation on my brain. The surgery was a success, as they were able to fix all the damaged parts of my brain without any complications. The swelling would take several weeks to completely go away but I will make a full recovery within 3 months. However because I was misdiagnosed for 5 months and put on medicine that I had no business taking plus recovering from this brain surgery took a huge toll on my body. I went from weighing 260 in August to 173 the day I left the hospital In December.
I was told recovery will happen but it will be a very slow process. 3 to 6 months to be completely healed and back to normal. I was told by many neurologists who came in to see me and my case that it is a miracle I am alive and how lucky I am to still be here. They actually do not understand how I did not die and are using my case as a study guide and study case to train new and upcoming neurologists. I have been home now for 3 weeks, I am finally able to walk slowly on my own without a walker. I am still unable to drive and function 100% on my own, so any help I would be so grateful for.
