At 7, Peyton and her 5-year-old sister Skarlett were critically injured in a head-on collision on March 8, 2017. Peyton's spinal cord was severed, resulting in instant paralysis from the chest down.
Her 100-day hospital stay at Mott's included 50 days in the PICU, 30 of which she was on life support. She endured a spinal fusion, a subsequent surgery due to infection, and a near-fatal bout of sepsis. We faced the unimaginable: considering organ donation and a potential baptism as her survival was uncertain. Yet, Peyton fought back.
Further complications included a cerebral spinal fluid leak requiring skull drilling and multiple drainage tubes. A month after the accident, I had to deliver the devastating news that she would never walk again, a moment marked by heart-wrenching screams.
Two months post-hospitalization, we relocated to Arizona for its strong spinal cord community and accessibility.
Sadly, Peyton developed paralytic scoliosis, necessitating another full spinal fusion just over a year after the accident to prevent organ compression, she now has the bone density of a 95-year-old.
Having spent two birthdays in the hospital, Peyton's scars tell a story of survival.
***Her one wish is a special Sweet 16***
As a single mother, making this happen has become impossible. I'm reaching out for help to secure an accessible Airbnb for Peyton and a few friends, with Skarlett also celebrating her upcoming birthday with two friends. These girls have been through so much.
Any contribution towards making Peytons dream sweet 16 a reality would be deeply appreciated.
Extra funds will go towards Peyton's participation in the Rollette's experience. Even a share would mean the world.
The below photos show the perfect, accessible Airbnb, fully stocked and ready to make Peyton's Sweet 16 dream come true – a celebration for a little girl who fought so hard to live.
Thank you in advance for your kindness.
