Hi, my name is Jen, and I’m organizing this fundraiser on behalf of my boyfriend Dino's family to support his nephew, Peyton, a 14-year-old from Kauaʻi who has been hospitalized for over a week due to a sudden and serious medical condition.
On October 6, 2025, Peyton — a healthy, active teenager who loves football — suddenly became weak and dizzy during practice. He experienced a near-syncope episode, a significant increase in heart rate, and severe weakness that left him unable to stand.
He was rushed to Wilcox Memorial Hospital on Kauaʻi, where he underwent multiple tests, including a head CT and spine MRI. As his condition worsened, doctors arranged for him to be medically transferred by air to Kapiʻolani Medical Center for Women and Children on Oʻahu for specialized care.
Since then, Peyton has endured extensive testing — including numerous tests and an ultrasound of his heart — and continues to receive physical and occupational therapy daily. While his strength has slowly improved, he still depends on a walker and/or wheelchair when walking long distances and now struggles with severe back/flank pain. Recent tests and imaging point to kidney inflammation and injury, and doctors say he will need close monitoring and rehabilitation for some time.
Peyton is the oldest of four children, and this has been incredibly hard on his entire family. He hasn’t seen his younger siblings since being transferred off-island, and everyone misses him dearly.
His mom, a Labor & Delivery RN and the family’s primary income earner, has been out of work to stay by his side through every test and therapy session. His dad, who is self-employed, has had to pause his business to care for their other children and support Peyton’s ongoing recovery.
Ongoing Care After Discharge:
Once Peyton is discharged, he will need continued care and support, including:
Frequent follow-up appointments with specialists to monitor kidney and neurological recovery
Regular physical and occupational therapy to rebuild strength and mobility
At-home assistance for daily activities and pain management
Routine lab work and imaging to ensure his kidneys are healing properly
Strict rest, hydration, and dietary management to protect his recovery
Because his recovery will take time, both parents will need to remain home to care for him and manage his medical appointments.
How Donations Will Help:
All donations will go directly to the Serquina family to help cover:
Travel, lodging, and meal expenses while Peyton remains hospitalized off-island
Medical costs not fully covered by insurance
Ongoing physical and occupational therapy
Recovery and follow-up care once home on Kauaʻi
Loss of income during Peyton’s hospitalization and recovery
The Serquina family is deeply grateful for every prayer, message, and act of kindness. Peyton is strong and determined, and with your support, he has a great chance to make a full recovery.
Thank you for helping this amazing family through such a difficult time.
