My sweet 5-year-old kitty, Petunia, is currently undergoing a partial glossectomy with a (hopefully very) temporary esophageal tube. This is a surgery to remove a large part of her tongue, and the esophageal tube is how she will be fed, hydrated, and given medication until she is able to eat on her own.

At the moment, my and her care team are unsure of how this transpired. I came home from my nightshift job to find her tongue necrotic and only partially attached. A biopsy is being done to determine if there is any underlying condition that caused this. Our theory is that she somehow bit her tongue off. Petunia was recently hospitalized for an illness we were unable to determine, and she did make a recovery. Since then, she has been on a specialized diet due to difficulty eating, which we assumed was due to teeth extraction from stomatitis (autoimmune gum disease) earlier in the year.

At the moment, this is all the information I have regarding the situation, and I am waiting on a call from her surgeon to hear how her surgery went.

She will have a long, difficult recovery, and I am currently preparing a room in my house for her to safely and peacefully recover away from my other animals.

I've included pictures of the cost estimate provided to me by the emergency vet. The costs are out of my budget and I had to utilize CareCredit to afford the deposit for her hospital stay and surgery. Any amount helps, and 100% of donations will go directly towards Petunia's care.
