On Friday, March 20th, our beloved Petunia—a spirited 8-year-old chihuahua pit bull mix adopted from a local shelter—suddenly began whimpering in pain. There were no warning signs, and within hours, she lost the use of her right front leg. After a few days of rest at home, she wasn't improving, so we brought her to the vet and started her on medication right away. The vet recommended imaging and bloodwork, but due to the high cost, we decided to wait and see if the medication would help first. For a short time, Petunia seemed to improve, but then she re-injured herself jumping out of her bed. Over the past few days, her condition has worsened. She went from being able to walk to go potty to now being unable to walk at all, and she has started wetting the bed because she can't hold her own weight. The vet suspects a pinched nerve or a slipped disc in her neck or back, but also mentioned there could be another underlying cause that only imaging and bloodwork can reveal. After nine days of consistent medication, Petunia is not improving and is actually declining. We are now at a crossroads: more testing is urgently needed, or we may have to make the heartbreaking decision to put her down so she does not suffer. The funds raised will go directly toward the imaging, bloodwork, and any ongoing vet care Petunia needs. If it turns out that nothing more can be done, the funds will help cover euthanizing and cremation costs, ensuring she is comfortable and not in pain. Any help and support we can get for Petunia and her vet care (or in the event she needs end of life care) would be very much appreciated. She is so loved by her doggy sister Bella and her human brothers and sisters as well. Petunia is a big part of our family, and we want to do everything we can to help her through this sudden and difficult time. We never expected our crazy, active dog to have such a sudden change in health, and your support means the world to us.
