Farm life is hard.

If you’ve followed us for the past decade, you know Petra has always put every animal — and human — before herself. Tonight, something awful happened to her. We may never know exactly what or who caused it, but our focus now is on Petra and her recovery.

She’s currently at the emergency vet. They recommended surgery tomorrow, which was quoted at over $5,000. Thankfully, they worked with us to create a more manageable plan — surgery early in the morning, with me taking over her wound care afterward.

Petra will turn 10 next month, and I’m just so grateful she’ll be here to celebrate that. Livestock guardian dogs are truly worth their weight in gold, and I hope she knows how deeply she’s loved.
