What we would give to find the cure

 

Petra Alicia Roque is the mother of three boys and one girl. She is a charismatic, loving and a caring mother who has always given us the world and everything we ever needed. She grew up with 11 brothers and sisters and lost both her parents at an early age. She is 58 years old and looking to become a first-time grandmother this year.

 

 

 

 

Help Save Momma

 

We discovered in the summer of 2021 that my mom had been suffering some major pain in her feet. She hadn’t sprained or injured anything, so she continued on like everything was fine. It’s no secret to anyone that knows her that she is incredibly strong. However, this past summer, the pain got to a point where it was unmanageable on her own, and she was forced to go to the hospital.

That hospital visit gave us devastating news. The doctors examined her and discovered that she was suffering from extensive liver disease, Stage 4 Cirrhosis.

 

We were all in shock. Momma never partook in smoking and has always limited herself when it comes to alcohol. Her idea of “getting crazy” is having one margarita, which she can only drink half of before she starts to giggle and realize she’s reached her limit. Her liver condition has slowly been attacking her body over the years, and it's primarily due to a lack of proper nutrition. Her parents passed away when she was 5 years old and she was raised by her older siblings. Food was scarce when she was younger and she made due with what was available.

Seeing her, you would never have guessed that she was walking around in pain. She continues going about her day to day, staying alive, and trying to survive what some may call the apocalypse that is Cirrhosis. But, if you look closely, you can see she is in pain; trying her hardest to not let anyone see. She fights hard to protect her family from experiencing the inconvenience that comes with this horrible disease and pain.. Holding back screams on bumpy rides to and and from the hospital, turning her lifestyle around in hopes she can continue to live one more day, one more month, one more year. Since learning her diagnosis, she has fully dedicated herself to learning more and educating herself, as well as our family to the effects of this disease; but everything comes with a cost.

She will continue diagnostics on a month-to-month basis, and may incur additional costs associated with further medical treatment. With all current treatments, the hope is to maintain her health, before getting on the waitlist for a liver transplant. The cost of that will also be incredibly high, and I will be the first to volunteer to donate my liver if necessary. Our first goal is to be able to support the on-going treatments. Currently, she runs a small shop in Denver, which she is only able to keep open part time with assistance of others due to her limited physical capabilities.

 

 

 

 

We as a family are here to ask for financial support. Any loose change helps to pay it forward. We are asking for your kind donation to support her on-going treatments and hopefully raise enough to afford a liver transplant. Momma has to avoid stress at all costs to keep her health as good as possible, and right now, the financial stress of her situation is causing her much stress.

 

Nacho Lady

 

Momma has always been a lover of life and has fought to live it to the fullest for herself and her beloved family. Though we know her as “Mom,” she was known to many of our friends as the “Nacho Lady”. Our brother’s birthday is on November 1st, 5 minutes past Halloween. As kids, we used to celebrate his birthday on Halloween, and he used to pretend that all the Halloween candy were gifts for his birthday. Every Halloween, Momma would bring nachos to make Nacho Supreme during our spooky festivities. From then on she was granted the name of the Nacho Lady. We all grew up playing sports, and other parents and friends would ask us during games, “Where is the Nacho Lady? Where are the nachos?” Well, we would say, “She is Nacho mom.” And sure enough, our mom being the thoughtful person she is, she’d bring nachos to the following game to ensure our friends were fed nachos. She has always been a giver. Her whole life, Nacho Lady has always been the one to help everyone around her. But now we are asking people to help her. We will be using #NachoLady as a Hashtag for social to help spread awareness of this unfortunate situation. Our hope is to get as much aid as possible to allow Momma to continue to live. We chose the name because it's cheesy, silly and everyone loves it!! Just like my Mom. Please help by sharing!

Lo que daríamos por encontrar la cura 

 Petra Alicia Roque es madre de tres hijos y una hija. Es una madre carismática, cariñosa y cuidadosa que siempre nos ha dado el mundo y todo lo que necesitábamos. Creció con 11 hermanos y hermanas y perdió a sus padres muy pequeña. Tiene 58 años y espera convertirse en abuela por primera vez este año. 

Ayúdanos a salvar a nuestra mamá

 En el verano de 2021 nos enteramos de que nuestra mamá había estado sufriendo un dolor muy considerable en sus pies. No se había torcido ni lesionado, así que continuó como si todo estuviera bien. No es ningún secreto para nadie que la conozca que ella es increíblemente fuerte. Sin embargo, el verano pasado, el dolor llegó a un punto en el que era inmanejable por su cuenta, y tuvo que ir al hospital. Esa visita al hospital nos dio noticias devastadoras. Los médicos la examinaron y descubrieron que sufría de una enfermedad hepática: cirrosis en etapa 4.

 Todos estábamos en shock. Nuestra mamá nunca fumó y siempre se ha moderado cuando se trata de tomar alcohol. Su concepto de "ponerse loca" es tomarse una margarita, y solo puede beber la mitad antes de que comience a reírse y darse cuenta de que ya llegó a su límite. La condición de su hígado ha estado atacando lentamente su cuerpo a lo largo de los años, y se debe principalmente a la falta de una nutrición adecuada. Sus padres fallecieron cuando ella tenía 5 años y fue criada por sus hermanos mayores. La comida era escasa cuando era más chica y ella se las arreglaba con lo que había. 

 Al verla, ni te hubieras imaginado que estaba caminando con dolor. Ella sigue con su día a día, luchando por seguir viva y tratando de sobrevivir a lo que algunos le llamarían el apocalipsis que es la cirrosis. Pero, si la miras de cerca, puedes ver que tiene dolor; haciendo todo lo posible para que nadie lo note. Está luchando mucho para cuidarnos a su familia de los inconvenientes que vienen con esta horrible enfermedad y el dolor. Se aguanta los gritos en los viajes por las calles con baches hacia y desde el hospital, y cambió todo su estilo de vida con la esperanza de que pueda seguir viviendo un día más, un mes más, un año más. Desde que supo su diagnóstico, se ha dedicado a aprender más, a educarse a sí misma y a nuestra familia sobre los efectos de esta enfermedad; pero todo tiene un costo. 

 Ella va a seguir con los diagnósticos cada mes, y puede que surjan costos adicionales por los nuevos tratamientos médicos. Con todos los tratamientos que ya tiene, la esperanza es mantener su salud lo mejor posible antes de que entre en la lista de espera para un trasplante de hígado. El costo de eso también será increíblemente alto, y nosotros vamos a ser los primeros en ofrecerse como voluntarios para donar nuestro hígado si es necesario. Nuestro principal objetivo es poder apoyar para cubrir sus tratamientos. Actualmente, tiene una tiendita en Denver, Colorado, que solo puede tener abierta a medio tiempo con la ayuda de otros, por sus capacidades físicas limitadas.

 Como familia, estamos aquí para pedir su apoyo financiero. Cualquier moneda ayuda para pagar todo lo necesario. Estamos pidiendo su amable donación para apoyar sus tratamientos y, con suerte, recaudar lo suficiente para pagar un trasplante de hígado.  Lady Nacho
#NachoLady

 Nuestra mamá siempre ha sido una amante de la vida y ha luchado por vivirla al máximo, para ella y su querida familia. Aunque la conocemos como “Momma”, o "Mamá", es también conocida por muchos amigos como "Lady Nacho". El cumpleaños de nuestro hermano es el 1 de noviembre, 5 minutos después de Halloween. Cuando éramos niños, solíamos celebrar su cumpleaños en Halloween, y él fingía que todos los dulces de Halloween eran regalos de cumpleaños. Cada Halloween, Momma traía nachos para hacer Nacho Supreme en todas las fiestas de terror. A partir de entonces se ganó el nombre de Lady Nacho. Todos crecimos haciendo deportes, y los demás papás y amigos nos preguntaban en los partidos: "¿dónde está Lady Nacho?, ¿dónde están los nachos?" Hasta diríamos que ella es la “Mamá Nacho". Y efectivamente, nuestra mamá, siendo la persona considerada que es, llevaba nachos al siguiente partido para nuestros amigos. Ella siempre ha sido una persona que da. Toda su vida, la Señora Nachos ha sido la que ha ayudado a todos los que la rodean. Pero ahora estamos pidiendo sea a ella a quien se le ayude. Utilizaremos el hashtag #NachoLady en redes sociales para ayudar a difundir esta desafortunada situación y pedir apoyo. Nuestra esperanza es obtener la mayor ayuda posible para permitir que nuestra mamá siga viviendo. Elegimos el nombre porque es cursi, tonto ¡y a todos les encanta! Al igual que a nuestra mamá. ¡Por favor, ayuda compartiendo!

 Este va a ser un proceso largo y difícil; pero con su apoyo, será un gran alivio para su circunstancia que ya de por sí es estresante. Entonces, si puedes, por favor dona. Cualquier cantidad ayuda.
