Welcome! This fundraiser has been set up to support the recovery of Peterson Napoleon, my wonderful fiancé, who has recently endured a stroke.
Recently, Peterson was brought to an emergency room because of concerns about the function of the right side of his body. He was limping, struggling to use spoons and forks, and couldn't remember when his troubles started. We never could've imagined that he had actually had a stroke at the young age of 31 and was dealing with the physical and cognitive repercussions of it. Peterson has been away from home for almost a month due to hospitalization and, at the moment, time in a rehabilitation facility in White Plains, NY.

How These Funds Will Help Us
Peterson is lucky enough to have health insurance through his job as he has served as a Community Liaison for the New York City Mayor's Office of Immigrant Affairs, helping immigrant communities across the city receive equitable access to resources and services. However, there are many expenses that have made this time even harder for us. For example, the cost of safely traveling in the middle of a pandemic to see him while he was hospitalized and in a rehabilitation center has been unexpectedly high. Buying healthy foods and amenities to make his time away from home a bit easier has been expensive as well. However, the most stressful is still to come. As Peterson will need to take time off of work to do intensive rehabilitation and rest, we will have to take a leave that, we have recently found out, will be largely unpaid. He will be without pay for about 5 months. It goes without saying how much this will complicate his recovery.
I have set the goal for this fundraiser to be the majority of his impending lost pay. Having even a fraction of this amount covered would ensure that Peterson would be able to better focus on recovery, which his care team has indicated will be a difficult road, but they are hopeful that his youth and physical health will ease this process. The funds contributed here would go towards recurring bills, as well as purchasing assistive items that will make Peterson's day-to-day activities easier, transportation to and from appointments, and uncovered medical expenses.
A Final Thank You!
I'm honestly still too deeply in shock to fully process what I've written here. Everyone has had their lives shaken up by this incredibly difficult year, but we are totally stunned by what has happened. Having been together and inseparable for almost six years, Peterson and I haven't been apart this long in a very long time (if ever) since meeting. But I am so incredibly proud of how brave and strong he has been in the face of this stroke. Any and all support is appreciated!
