Our lives have been turned upside down since October. That is when Peter fell ill and he's been in the hospital ever since. We're reaching out now because we're at the point where we need to ask for help.
Originally, he wasn't expected to survive. He was in complete kidney failure, had sepsis, and his other organs were shutting down. It was touch and go in the ICU in Modesto for quite some time. Peter fought hard and after several weeks he was moved to an accute care facility in Folsom. After several months there he was moved to a post acute rehab center in Elk Grove where currently resides.
Peter has come a long way. He's overcome muti organ shut down and sepsis. That being said, he is completely dialysis dependant and has not yet gained the ability to stand or walk on his own. He's working hard with daily physical therapy but still needs 24 hour care which brings us to out current dilemma.
His insurance is refusing to cover his ongoing care, which we have appealed, The facility is trying to discharge him home this Sunday (April 19th). We're unsure of what's to come but we need to be proactive because the appeal may be denied.
At this time, we are asking for financial support to cover uncovered hospitalization, continued 24 hour care, and transportation to and from dialysis (currently requiring an ambulance) 4 times a week. The dialysis is expected to be required for the rest of his life.
This has been an extremely difficult time for our mother, and the financial burden she is facing is huge. We are asking for help to alleviate that aspect of things, allowing our family to continue to focus on helping Peter get better so that he may make it home safely when he's medically stable.
We know that times are tough, and we sincerely appreciate your support. If you are unable to make a financial contribution, we ask that you please share this fundraiser and please send positive thoughts and healing energy.
