Help Peter through the Battle of his Life
Peter needs your help!!!
I'm not sure where to even start, but here we go...
On December 23rd, dad had a routine procedure to have some cancer removed from his body. It was projected to be a quick 48-72 hour turnaround, and he'd be back on his feet. Well, needless to say, the complete opposite has happened.
Dad is currently fighting for his life @ Maine Med in Portland!
After his surgery at Christmas, we've been all over the mid-coast, central Maine, southern Maine, and Boston, to numerous Doctors and countless trips to the emergency rooms.
The current situation is this: he's in the Intermediate Care Unit, with acute respiratory distress (lungs filling with fluid), sepsis (blood infection), congestive heart failure & a parasite. He has a colostomy bag on his chest, tubes coming out of his kidneys, it's tragic. He's become so weak, he no longer resembles the man we all know and love.
The doctors are confidant that he will come out of this current scare, but we're only just getting started. He'll be going into in-patient rehab after he recovers in the IMU, regaining some motor skills, muscle, and some weight gain. Then in early September he'll be having another major surgery in Boston, only to go back into another in-patient facility while he recuperates again. It's projected that it will be another year before he can be home, and living on his own again.
With all that said, we're all very hopeful that he will come home and resume his life. But in the interim, he needs help. After having his home burnt down 3 years ago, he's only about 40% rebuilt, and with all these health issues, he's no longer able to bring home an income to rebuild his home. His medical bills are growing, and the day-to-day bills are piling up. Then the impact of the pandemic, is compounding all the struggles of teamwork.
As a lifelong resident of Lincolnville, and an active member of the community in the surrounding towns, the Class of '70, mason, friend and father. A man that's given to so so many, he needs all the support he can get right now.
Please share this post all you wish. He still has a long long road ahead, and we're just hoping to give him a little peace of mind, while he focuses all his energy on his recovery.

UPDATE: 5/28/2021
As we head into Memorial Day weekend, dad's recovery is slow, but has had some milestones. He's no longer hooked up to all the machines, and is breathing again on his own. He's been on a few strolls down the hallway, with minimal effect on his lungs. The sepsis has been treated with a massive effort by the Infectious Disease team, and his blood/oxygen levels are great. The Dr's are currently working on a plan for his aftercare, which is looking like a short stay in a supervised nursing facility. He's still very very weak, and has a long road to get prepared for the big surgery in September.
Through the efforts of many, and the support that has been overwhelming, some beautiful Grace, he has the stamina and motivation to overcome this.
Over the weekend, Rose will be hosting a "For Petes Sake" pizza event, and The Masonic Lodge will be getting together to cut&split firewood at dads house. Please. If interested, search Dolce Vita Farm on Facebook, for more details.
Throughout this journey, it has been tough, but this past week has proven to all of us, the importance of compassion and love. I've seen the fear in his eyes from panic of not being able to breath to crying from laughing at an old story sent in from a friend. I have overwhelming faith that he will overcome this with all of our support.
I will update next Friday on his progress.
Bless you all
