A little background on how he got here...
In 10/2020, Peter began urinating blood which prompted him to reached out to his doctor and was sent for a CT Scan of the kidney area. The first CT Scan that he had in 11/2020 showed a lesion of some sort on his kidney. It was small, around 1cm and at that time was he was advised that the lesion was too small to biopsy. During that time he also had a scope completed which showed no other issues in the urinary tract area. He was advised that he should wait six months and they would perform another CT and see if there were any changes to the lesion. When asked about the issues with blood in his urine, he was told this was most likely from weight lifting. Upon hearing this it was decided that he needed a second opinion. Fast forward to 01/2021 and he was seen by another Urologist/Oncologist. During this visit he was told that the lesion was very small, too small to biopsy and he was in agreement with waiting a few months to see if any changes occurred. Our concern was that he was still continuing to pass blood and this had been ongoing since 10/2020. The doctor asked him to make a few changes and if the blood was still present in a week or two to call him immediately. His urine cleared for a period of time, but eventually the blood was present again. He reached out to the doctor and he advised that he wanted to do another scope, this time under anesthesia, and also ordered a new CT Scan. Unfortunately, when he received the most current CT Scan results, it showed that the lesion had grown over 1 cm since the original scan in 11/2020. He was scheduled immediately for a biopsy in March.
At the beginning of April, he received the the heart wrenching news that he does in fact have cancer, but not just any type of cancer. His is a rare and highly aggressive form of cancer that usually originates in the bladder. Peter's is in his kidney. He is part of the 2% of people who develop this type of bladder cancer in the kidney. His formal diagnosis is: Invasive high-grade, Urothelial Carcinoma, involving renal parenchyma.
He met with his doctor on 04/14/2021 to discuss exactly what is going on in his body. At this time, they are staging his cancer at 4, as one of his lymph nodes is enlarged. Peter will require at least 3-4 cycles of Chemotherapy, and then surgery to remove his right kidney, ureter, and a portion of his bladder. We are hoping that he will be able to begin his Chemo treatments within the next two weeks, so he can starting fighting and ultimately healing.
Peter has worked at PPL since he has been 18 years old. He is currently a Sub Station Electrician and has always been a hard worker. To know Peter is to love him. He is quiet at times, but get him out of his shell and he's one of the goofiest people you'll meet. Get him laughing and his dimples will pop out, baby blues will sparkle and then forget it, you'll love him forever. He's the person that when asked to help, will never say no to anyone. When you call him, he's there for everyone in whatever way he can be. I think he thinks that is a huge flaw or fault that he has, but honestly it's one of his most endearing qualities. He's loyal, selfless and just the best human being. We are so lucky to know him.
He is the most amazing father to his son. I don't think anyone else in the universe can light up Peters world like Sullivan can. Sully is one lucky kiddo in having a dad in his corner like Peter and we want to do everything in our power to make sure that Sully has him here for a very long time. He's a loving son, brother, uncle, and friend.
We are hoping to ease some of the stress that will come in the form of medical bills and living expenses as we anticipate that he will be out or missing quite a bit of time from work while he is recovering from his treatment.
He has a long road ahead of him and he will fight. He's the Champ after all. We love him and will be with him every step of the way. He and his family appreciate all the love and support that has been flooding in these last few weeks. Hug your loved ones and hold on tight to one another.
Thank you all!
