Help Peter & His Family Fight Cancer

Donation protected

On July 27, when Peter’s mom took him in to see a doctor about a growth on his back, she never guessed their world would be turned upside down that day.

The word CANCER is never a word that any parent should ever have to hear.

Peter was quickly admitted to Kingston hospital that day where he endured many tests, scans, and a biopsy. After several trips back and forth to Kingston and Ottawa hospitals Peter was diagnosed with Ewing’s Sarcoma a very rare form of childhood cancer.

The tumour is isolated in one area on his back so doctors moved quickly with their treatment plan. Within the two weeks of being diagnosed he was having his 1st chemo treatment on Tuesday August 9th. Still in shock - his parents Luke and Amy sat with him in a room while he received his first and second he doses of chemotherapy. Over the next couple of months there will be many more rounds of chemotherapy in Kingston, and no doubt many sleepless nights. Peter will eventually have surgery to remove the mass, followed by several rounds of chemotherapy. Poor Peter. No child should have to go through this.

As you can imagine this will not only take a toll on Peter - but also on his whole family emotionally, physically and financially. Amy will need to take a leave from work because of the intensity of the treatment plan. Luke will routinely miss work to support Peter and to help take care of Nora their older daughter. The trips back and forth to Kingston hospital, eating out, gas prices and loss of wages will add up quickly and add another stress to their family. This is where we as community, as friends and family can help lessen their burden and let them just focus on their child getting better.

The Owens family: Luke , Amy (Barnes) , Nora (10 ) and Peter (8) had been raising their family in Cambridge, Ontario until last year in July of 2021 when they moved to Madoc to start their new journey.

Peter and Nora attend School in Madoc, joined sports teams and quickly made many new friends. They signed up for skating dance, and Bruce Lee hockey. It was very obvious Peter’s excitement and love for hockey. Peter joined the Madoc Grizzlies hockey team and found his passion and group of friends with common interest. They finally had found their place in the small town of Madoc which they loved. Then their world came to crashing halt.

We can help them. Let’s fight this together as a community and help Peter along his journey to beat Cancer so he can get back to being the fun loving little boy he is, and playing the sport that he loves.

I know every little penny raised will help relieve the extra stress and burden that comes with this horrible disease. If you can make a donation that would be greatly appreciated. If you can’t please send your positive thoughts, or prayers to Peter and his family. I know they can use all of your support in any way you can help.

Peter, Nora, Amy, Luke : We have your back. We will help you fight and beat this cancer. ❤️
