UPDATE: Wow! Just WOW! Pete is utterly blown away by everyone's kindness, love and generosity - and to meet and beat the target inside a day is *astounding*, thank you all so much, truly.
I've had a few people who know much more about scooters than I do suggest I increase the target - not to be greedy but so we can get Pete a model that's not just good indoors but suitable and safe on roads and pavements to really give him his life back (which is really important) plus a comfier seat, improved battery life, spikes and skulls on it etc.
And a heartfelt and humbled THANK YOU from Pete and me, you're all absolutely bloody awesome!
Many thanks too to those of you who've shared it to friends, groups, on social media etc. - please keep spreading the word!

==============================================
Pete Knifton is a great friend of mine, a thoroughly decent chap and a truly legendary artist.
If you've ever played Games Workshop's fantasy football game BLOODBOWL you'll have seen his brilliant, busy, exciting and comedic illustrations that literally defined the game; Pete's artwork was both its soul and beating heart, encapsulating it perfectly and creating a glorious world of humour, violence and satire.
You may also know him from his equally excellent work in WARHAMMER 40,000, the DARK FUTURE boardgame, WHITE DWARF magazine, Alternative Armies' FLINTLOQUE game system, the world-famous FIGHTING FANTASY gamebooks, his BOLT THROWER album cover work or even Marvel's TRANSFORMERS comics... and, as they say, much much more.
Pete's skill, humour and style made him highly sought after as a freelance artist - and very influential in the lives of a great many people. If you were (and are) into 'the golden age' of gaming, music or comics you'll have seen and appreciated Pete's work and remember it with fondness, love or even a passion, and Pete's artwork may define a great period of your life.
Over the past few years though Pete has had a bit of a hard time; specifically he's got a lot less steady on his feet and has had several falls, many of which have left him with some quite nasty cuts, bruises and even hospital visits - and although he's still fiercely independent he's finally come to terms with the fact he really needs a mobility scooter to get around.
This is where we come in.
Being a decent, kind and very self-effacing chap Pete was looking to get a very cheap, basic model. I think he deserves something better than that so I'm asking if you can spare a bit of cash towards one.
It really doesn't matter how much because any amount will be deeply appreciated - but if Pete's artwork ever made you smile, if you're a die-hard Bloodbowl player, an Oldhammerer, an art-lover or just an all-round lovely human being if you could chip in a few quid hopefully we can get him a *decent* mobility scooter. He wouldn't ask himself because he's not that kind of man - but (with his permission, after I told him I didn't want to see any more photos of him with cuts, stitches and black eyes on my timeline) he's allowed me to set this fundraiser up.
So if you can, please help - Pete's a great guy and giving him back his mobility and a real sense of safety, security and independence would be a truly wonderful gift to a fabulous human being and a truly art legend.
Thank you, truly.
