Help Pete and Cher Rebuild After Hurricane Milton
Donation protected

My brother Pete, along with his wife Cher and their sons Gavin and Jacob, has faced significant loss as a result of Hurricane Milton. Their residence has been classified as a level 3 disaster due to flooding from sewer and brackish water, leading to the unfortunate loss of most of their possessions. The fiberglass pool, which Pete and Cher use for therapeutic purposes, has sustained cracks from debris, and their shed has also suffered extensive damage from floodwaters. Unfortunately, neither the pool nor the shed is covered by insurance.
The estimated cost for repairing their home is $125,000, which they hope will be covered by their insurance policy. Additionally, they have incurred expenses amounting to $15,500 for demolition, dehumidification, and mold remediation to ensure compliance with their insurance contract, alongside their deductibles.
They are currently living on the sofas and recliners of family members along with their two dogs, a situation that is far from ideal. FEMA-approved hotels are notorious for drug-related activities, with one situated adjacent to a strip club. Unfortunately, neither of these hotels has any vacancies. They have been searching for an affordable Airbnb, given the lack of hotel options, while they navigate the insurance process and the reconstruction of their home. This situation poses a financial strain, as they are still responsible for their mortgage and other bills. At present, FEMA does not provide coverage or reimbursement for Airbnb accommodations. Most of the funds will be going to pay rent for 4 months while they wait for insurance and then reconstruction of their home. Any funds left will go towards their deductibles, then pool and shed repairs.
Pete, a disabled combat veteran, is currently navigating the rating process while also being a full-time student. Cher is employed full-time at the local sheriff's office and frequently works overtime to manage the additional medical expenses that have arisen since 8/10/23. Their son Gavin has been in recovery from a serious car accident for the last year, which has placed a significant financial strain on the family.
Their circumstances began to improve until Hurricane Milton struck, drastically altering their lives. The region has faced consecutive hurricanes—Debby, Helene, and Milton—creating overwhelming challenges. The available resources and assistance in their area are severely strained.
Although Pete and Cher have never sought help, I am Pete’s sister, I live in Arizona and have decided to start a GoFundMe to support them during this difficult period.
Any help would be immensely appreciated. Every contribution, no matter how small, will make a difference. If you are unable to contribute, please say a prayer for them and share this story. Thank you, everyone, from the bottom of my heart.
