On Monday February 1, 2021, Perla was picking up her 5 y old daughter from her dad's place. As she pulled up in front of her daughter's father's house a male offender came out from between the parked cars and pulled a gun and shot her through the passenger side window. By the grace of God she was on the phone, the bullet went through her ring finger, her cell phone, her cheek, shattering her jaw and is embedded in her neck.
Perla drove herself to a nearby fire station where they were able to immediately assist her and transport her to the hospital. She did end up damaging her car getting there and has lost that too.
Perla has had reconstructive surgery to fix her jaw, they repaired the bullet hole in her cheek. Due to the oral surgery she ended up with a trach. Although the trach has been removed she now has a gaping hole in her chest. She also had surgery to have her finger repaired.
Due to the extent of her wounds she is unable to eat solid foods and will be undergoing several months of appointments and therapies.
Perla is a young single mother of two and was working two jobs to make ends meet. She is a fighter but without knowing when she will be able to return to work she will need our help to help her keep her rent and utilities paid. Anything helps!
