On May 11th, we took our sweet Pepper boy to the vet, expecting to treat him for allergies or asthma as he had an out of character coughing fit the night before. We ordered an x-ray, and were shocked and devastated by the results. We found out that Pepper had a congenital herniated diaphragm - meaning that he has a hole in his diaphragm where his liver has protruded through, applying pressure on his heart and causing it to become severely enlarged. This is a rare genetic condition, and is fatal if left untreated.

We’re moving forward with surgery next week, and are humbly asking for help from anyone who is able. This is a high risk surgery being performed by a specialist - meaning that the vet bill has been quoted between $7,700 - $11,300, which we unfortunately do not have the means to cover ourselves. Since adopting our two rescue kitties two months ago, we’ve accrued thousands of dollars in vets bills - including life saving surgery for Pepper’s sister, Pickle, after discovering she had a massive bladder stone immediately after adopting her. Between the two surprise illnesses, we unfortunately are now struggling to also fund Pepper’s surgery.

Although this has been a very stressful and difficult time, we’re so grateful to have caught both illnesses in our kitties in time to save them. We love our cats more than anything, and would do anything in the world to help them. It’s very hard to get to a point where we need to ask for help - so if you’re able to donate anything, it would mean the world to help save our sweet, silly boy.
