Peppa is a normally excited, happy pup full of energy and life in all the best ways. However since yesterday she hasn’t been as willing to move her body, more so has delayed response in her back legs.
Today, she was dragging her feet when I told her we were going on a walk, this is where I became concerned, I wanted her to be able to relieve herself. I tried to take her to go potty, I carried her myself all the way to the dog park in my neighborhood - she did attempt to move and to pee but couldn’t even hold herself up. I immediately took her to the ER.
They told me it looks like a case of IVDD - common among basset hounds. It is suspected to be a herniated disc compressing her spinal cord however, there is no way to know for sure without further diagnostics. She needs a veterinary visit to see if she may need surgery or if this can be managed medically. Early intervention can impact the outcome so sooner is better than later if surgery is an option.
Best case would be for me to get her the surgery, I was quoted $6-8k. Without surgery she could still be paralyzed for weeks months years or the rest of her life. If possible, I would like to get her the surgery so she can continue to live a happy life.
I left with prescriptions for inflammation and pain, which will be filled at a pharmacy, however she still needs X-rays, blood work, and a confirmation of her diagnosis from a primary vet so I plan to take her tomorrow. I am doing research now on the best course of action. As of right now, she is resting and we will get her diagnostics done, and I will keep everyone updated!
I prioritize my dog because she’s more than a dog to me, she’s my family and emotional support, so every single share & dollar donated helps me immensely, and we are very grateful.
All of my friends know how much Peppa means to me and she is loved by many. I am so grateful. It hurts me to see her in pain so I decided to reach out to the community for support.
Peppa says thank you so much to everyone who is praying for her and helping her get surgery. ❤️
This process has been emotional and humbling, but I’m so proud of how far we’ve come already. I never imagined needing this much help, but I’ve learned that asking doesn’t mean failing, it means fighting for what matters. Peppa means everything to me, and thanks to your support, we’re getting closer to giving her the care she deserves.
