Penny, our rescue Chihuahua/Schnauzer mix, found her way into our lives in 2020. She’s the middle child of our three rescues, and from the moment she ran into my wife’s arms, she’s been a source of joy and comfort for our family. Penny was discovered wandering the streets in Texas, malnourished and alone, with a cataract in her left eye—a sign of trauma from her past. Despite everything, she’s always been cuddly, loves to be held, and gives the sweetest Penny hugs. She’s especially close to my wife, but she brings warmth and smiles to all of us, dancing on her back legs when she thinks there’s food and knocking things off my end table to welcome me home.
Recently, Penny developed a mass on her left front shoulder. She needs a cat scan, bloodwork, and possibly surgery or chemo if the mass turns out to be malignant. If it’s benign or something else, it still needs to be removed because it’s turning her leg sideways and making it hard for her to walk. We don’t have pet insurance, and while we’ve managed her checkups until now, I’m currently the sole income for our family and can’t afford the testing and scans she needs.
We’re humbly asking for anything that can be given to help Penny continue her journey of saving us, just as we saved her. Our three fur babies each have their own personalities, but Penny’s warmth and loving nature are irreplaceable. She senses when something’s off with one of us and always tries to comfort. Anything that can be given would mean the world to us, and we’re so grateful for your support.
