Help Penny Fight for More Time

I am sharing this on behalf of my brother, Adam, and my favorite, furry niece. Penny needs some love and help as she navigates her golden years...

I’m writing this with a very heavy heart, and it’s not something I ever thought I’d have to do in this way. Many of you know my dog, Penny –my sweet, loyal girl who has been by my side for almost 13 years. What you may not know is that she’s been fighting a tough battle, and I am need of some help to give her the chance she deserves.

About a month and a half ago, Penny was diagnosed with Cushing’s disease. It's a condition where her body produces too much cortisol, causing uncontrolled urination, hair loss, rapid muscle deterioration, spinal arching, and constant thirst. As if that wasn’t enough, Penny has also developed a tennis-ball-sized tumor on her right lung, which is blocking her airway and making it difficult for her to breathe. She coughs and hacks constantly, and it’s heartbreaking to see her in discomfort.

For those who are hearing this for the first time, please know it’s not because I didn’t want to share. This has been incredibly overwhelming for me, and I’ve been trying to take it one day at a time, focusing on her care and keeping her as comfortable as possible.

Penny has been with me through everything – college, relationships, countless moves, and a revolving door of wonderful roommates, both human and animal. She’s been my constant companion, my protector, and my heart. I am falling apart knowing that I may only have 3-6 months left with her if her condition doesn’t improve.

Our family has set up a GoFundMe for Adam and Penny because her vet bills have already piled up significantly, and all the testing, x-rays, ultrasounds, and prevention treatments she still need will continue to place a financial strain on Adam. With your generosity, we can support him as he slows the progression of her symptoms through medications, giving her a chance to stay by his side for just a little longer.
