On the 25 of June 2019, we were told the life changing news no parent ever wants to hear. Our beautiful, caring and loving 13 year old daughter Penelope, was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma, a rare bone cancer. Her only symptom was on-going pain in her right knee until she was unable to weight bear, which was found to be an aggressive tumour, confirmed by an MRI & biopsy. Due to the location of the tumour (which she & her brother named "Bob"), she would need major surgery to remove most of her right femur & her entire knee, to be replaced with titanium. Also because it was so aggressive she was only given 1 week to consider undergoing any fertility treatment to save her eggs for the future (nothing a child should have to decide after being told she has Cancer).
We are currently in our 6th month of high dose Chemotherapy, and have endured many hospital stays, with only 3 days at home between stays. As you can imagine this is an extremely difficult time for our family. The support from family and friends has been amazing, however financially it has taken a toll, because I have had to stop working to care for my strong & brave girl.
Having had a major car accident myself 8 years ago, I am not eligible to receive any government benefits to care for Penelope. Being told your child's cancer is not an exceptional circumstance and advised to sell your house instead was a very heavy blowThe bills are mounting up and without a car, I am now in fear of not having a home to raise 2 beautiful children in and with no money coming in I am putting my pride aside and asking for any financial support (or any other) to keep my girl smiling & her recovery going smoothly.
