In March, I rescued my sweet corgi Peggy Sue through a wonderful adoption agency.  She had been surrendered with a litter of puppies after spending three years at what we believe to be a backyard breeder. She came into my life when I needed her the most and filled a void I didn't know I had until the day we met : ) We've had a wonderful time together but now it brings me great sadness to face the decision of having to either surrender her back to the agency (for her own health and benefit) or ask for help from the community. Here is why:

On Sept. 14, 2019, less than a week after she celebrated her 4th birthday, while I was at a friend's wedding, I received a call that Peggy Sue had fallen from my apartment's second story window. We were initially not entirely sure how it happened; she had been left home alone for 10 minutes and was found by our neighbor downstairs on the concrete, immobile. Later we discovered that she had managed to squeeze her little body through the space between the AC screen and window frame. This was surprising because she had been left happily and has spent some time alone every day at the apartment since I've had her.

She was rushed to the ER, where we learned she had dislocated her hip. We chose to do the least invasive procedure, which cost $2,660, to put her hip back into place but one week later, at a check up, we learned that her hip had fallen out again and she would have to undergo femoral head ostectomy (FHO) surgery as soon as possible.

I have insurance but initially they refused to pay anything.  I am working with them to see if they will cover more but have no guarantees and may have to pay the entire sum myself.

In the meantime, it pains me to admit this but all of this is far more than I can afford. However, Peggy Sue is in pain and needs the surgery. There are a couple of area hospitals out of the city that are less expensive but mean I will have to rent a car and take a day or two off of work. $8,500 will cover the first procedure, the FHO surgery and aftercare, including physical therapy, so Peggy Sue can get back on her little feet.

Any amount you can donate will help take care of Peggy Sue. She is the sweetest, most wonderful dog who, despite all of the pain she's in, still has a smile on her face. As I said earlier, unfortunately, if I'm unable to raise this money I will surrender her to make sure she is properly cared for. Any money raised that is not used for her care will be donated to an organization to help other pet owners in need.

Thank you so much!
