Do you often find yourself confused and/or bored when reading about nutrition?
"Chlorophyll? More like Borophyll" - Billy Madison
Fret no more, I'm here to unconfuse and unborify nutrition. Yes, sometimes I use improper words but it's for a good cause; a healthier world.
We are a nation plagued with chronic illnesses. They are now the leading cause of death and disability in the United States. Nutrition is not only a path for prevention, but also treatment of these illnesses.
By providing affordable, reliable, helpful nutrition advice that is evidence-based and backed by science, I help people make positive changes in their health.
My name is Pearl Schuman, I was born and raised on San Juan Island. My parents taught me many things, but the three I value most are the importance of a hard day's work, making positive contributions to the community without expectations, and gathering around a good family meal at the end of the day.
In 2012, I received my Bachelor's degree in Business and pursued this career path for many years. I began to notice people near and dear to my heart with health issues experience transformations merely by altering the food they eat and saw an opportunity to have a better impact on people's lives.
This summer, I graduated with a Master of Science in Nutrition (MScN) from the National University of Natural Medicine in Portland, OR.
My goal is to open an office in my home town of Friday Harbor to provide nutrition consulting services to the community I love. Through advice, support, and motivation, I will help people get where they want to be.
What you can expect from me:
- Information online that is easy and FUN to read. If I don’t wanna read it, I don’t expect you will want to read it.
- Nutritional plans that factor in likes, dislikes, and lifestyle. If you can't stand mushrooms, I won't ask you to eat mushrooms.
- A health professional who listens. Often people tell me they go in for treatment and feel as though their concerns aren’t heard. I take the time to listen and develop a plan catered to you.
- A health professional who is highly active in the community. I love to share the knowledge and help others learn. To reach as many people as possible, my plan includes donating my time and services to schools, clinics, and the general public.
Ideally, I will open my doors the first of the year.
The funds I'm asking for are for the basic needs of launching my small business:
- Security deposit and first months rent for office space
- Office supplies; printer, desk (I have pens)
- Equipment for measuring anthropometrics
- HIPAA compliant software
- Health professional applications fees
- Professional liability insurance (first payment)
My focuses are on:
- Healing people with chronic illnesses
- Pre- and post-partum nutrition for the whole fam; Mom, Dad, and baby
- Healing the gut to improve mood, energy, sleep, weight management, and more
I love to help people and that will always be at the heart of what I do.
