Our little 2yo chihuahua mix baby Peanut was unfortunately affected by what we and the VCA discussed could be IVDD. Peanut’s current status is that her hind legs have lost the ability to fully function. She has a hard time standing up and walking, giving her a hard time eat, drink, and use the bathroom. For those fortunate enough to have met or witness Peanut’s exciting personality, you know how bouncy and excited she has been to meet everyone. She’s always reaching to meet you and give you her little puppy kisses.
We didn’t get an official diagnosis as we don’t have the means to cover the expenses to find out nor the treatment moving forward. The doctor quoted us $2.6-3.2k for diagnosis and $10-12k for treatment, therapy, and medications. The doctor has only provided us about a weeks worth of anti inflammatory (Prednisone) and pain killers (Gabapentin) but it can only subdue so much. Peanut was such a happy rubber band of a dog bouncing everywhere and was so full of joy and spirit. Her personality outshines larger than her small chihuahua self, with the most derpy looking faces and cute little attitude. She didn’t care how small she was compared to everyone. We both are so lost on how such a small but big loving heart of a baby could be affected with such a condition.
We’d love and appreciate any help for our plan to get Peanut back to her bright spirited self. Below is our plan to get her the diagnosis and treatment moving forward. The expenses are an estimated cost. We appreciate anything.

Plan A: Go forward with what the VCA recommended. This is the bill for just getting a diagnosis. Then after what they find, they’ll recommend us alternative centers for further analysis, since the VCA we went to does not have the tools or machines to find out.

Plan B: Travel to TJ, Mexico for diagnosis and treatments but at a fraction of the cost. On top of the estimated smaller costs for her treatment and diagnosis, we also need travel expenses and equipment for Peanut so she can have a comfortable and safe journey. Fortunately, we have accommodations while we’re there but we need to cover expedited entry into Mexico and extra funds for sustenance while we’re there.
For transparency, there will be a public access link where we will provide updates for expenses needed and spent.
Thank You
