In Loving Memory
David Alan Owen, 62, passed away on Friday, December 4, 2020 in the Provo Hospital, Provo Utah.  His sons, Derrick and Joseph, joined him in the hospital to be with him until his last breath.  David was a loving brother, father, uncle and grandfather and will be missed by those who loved and knew him.
David was born July 28, 1958 to Bert Lee Gabbott Owen and Carol Elizabeth Hansen in Salt Lake City, Utah at the LDS Hospital.  He was the 2nd of 5 children (1 older brother, and 3 sisters).  The family ended up in Salt Lake City, UT, two blocks from Liberty Park, where David lived his youth.  David graduated from South High School, known now as South City Campus for Salt Lake Community College.  While attending High School, David got into chess, to which he was really good at, and he enjoyed it.  In High School, he was also involved in Seminary, where is favorite teacher was Brother Taylor.  David graduated High School in 1976.
After High School, David served a full two-year LDS Mission in Stockholm, Sweden from 1977-1979.  He loved his mission, serving the Lord, and bringing joy to the people of Sweden.  After serving his mission, David joined the Air Force, serving for several years doing Communications.  During the 1980’s, after basic training, David returned and served at the Hill Air Force base.  He prided himself for his service in the Air Force, and enjoyed taking his children to Golden Corral for his free Veteran’s Day dinner every year.  David also enjoyed taking his children to the Hill Air Force base when they were young to the Air Show to see the jets and planes perform in the sky.  David was very patriotic and his favorite holiday was the 4th of July.  He took pride in celebrating his freedom and country.
David loved to travel, especially with his children.  During his life he was able to see all but 4 of the states of the USA, and was very proud of his travels.  He would tell people of the places he’d been and where his favorite sites were.  His favorite was Washington D.C., where he was able to see the monuments, including the Vietnam Wall.  Some of David’s other hobbies and accomplishments include: his love for hiking, camping, family gatherings, and holiday gatherings-like the 4th of July.
David is survived by his 4 children: Crystal Dawn (Scott), Derrick (Camille), Tierney (Tim) and Joseph.  He is also survived by his 8 grandchildren: Isaac (9), Liam (7), Olivia (7), Caylee (7), Saoirse (4), Sophie (3), Allison (3), and Moira (2).  He is survived by his siblings: Bob (Trish), Kathy (Charlie), SherryLynn, and Cynthia as well as many nieces, nephews, aunts, and uncles.  He is preceded in death by his parents, Bert and Carol Owen.
Funeral services with a viewing will be on Saturday, December 12, 2020 at the Memorial Redwood Mortuary on 6500 South Redwood Road.
The family has asked for this donation to help cover the cost of their father's burial and headstone.  Donations need to be made by Wednesday, December 9, 2020.  Thank you for you love and support as the family is dealing with the loss of their father, brother, uncle and friend.
