Help with vet bills for Shadow, my lost pet rat

Donation protected
Update: Shadow has since passed and I am repurposing this GoFundMe to cover the costs of her vet bills related to putting her to sleep due to the amount of pain she was in related to her injury, caused by an assumed tumour - burst eye. Hoping to get back what I paid so I don't have both an emotional hole and a financial hole in my pockets.

Hello, my name is Brad and for just over a year and a bit, I have been the proud rat parent to my babies Pepper and Shadow. Sadly, Pepper passed away due to a tumour, but Shadow has been doing really well so far and I've been doing my best to keep her happy even when Pepper isn't around anymore.

Sadly in the 2 months, she developed this red growth on one of her legs and despite my efforts to use both pain killers and antibiotics, once 2 months ago and now for the last week last month, going into March - she isn't improving. I've tried my best to make the process as painless as possible, including washing and bandaging it, but it's clear she's in pain.

That brings to me to why I'm making this GoFundMe. I spoke to my vet and they said that unless the antibiotics take, which they sadly haven't, they would recommend getting the limb removed, which I'm still unsure is the right thing to do, but if it's the only solution, and will allow her to live as long as she's able, I'd like to do it, but I can't afford £500, not including any additional antibiotics I may need following the surgery, so I came here hoping to receive donations from fellow rat parents or those who just want to see Shadow live as long as possible.

I've spoken to fellow rat parents and they told me that it could be bumblefoot, so I'm hoping that if the vet didn't realise that and may be able to just remove the growth and not the whole leg, that would be better. I'll keep this updated if I get a new quote based on this new information.

More recently, it has started bleeding a lot, which is why I took her to the vet recently as previously I bought it might be some sort of damage caused by hurting herself and would stop being so inflamed, but when it started bleeding I knew it was much worse, hence why I took her. I've been trying to keep her clean and keep the wound clean the past week, with plasters and warm soaks in water, but she's just in so much pain.

As requested by GoFundMe, here is the cost breakdown-
1. Fluid Therapy: IV Catheter Placement
- Amount: £0.00

2. Surgery: Amputate Limb
- Amount: £350.00

3. Sedatives, Injections, and Other Products
- Procedures-Non Surgical
- Amount: £56.91

4. Injections
- Methadyne Injection 10mg/ml (10)
- Sedator Injection 10ml
- Propoflo Plus 10mg/ml (20ml)
- Amount: £26.38

5. Oral Medications
- Rheumocam Dog Oral Suspension (15ml)
- Amount: £30.92

6. IP - Post Op Pack
- Procedures-Non Surgical
- Amount: £0.00

---

Total Cost: £464.21
Includes VAT of: £77.37

I've rounded up to £500 to handle post-operation costs that may be required, although £35.79 isn't exactly much more than the surgery, I thought I might have to increase the goal or pay out of pocket if there are complications.

Thanks,
Brad
