I moved far from home a little over a year ago for a two-year relationship, and at first life was going well. I had a steady job, was content, and even got my first rental. I emptied my savings to cover rent and deposit, but in April the relationship ended, and I had to move out abruptly. With no money or car, I relied on my job and e-bike and
managed to find a room to rent.
Then things got harder. I was grieving the breakup when I lost two close friends in just three months. In July, I also lost my job right when I was at my lowest. Because I live in a tourist area, most work is seasonal, and
once summer ends, jobs are scarce. This also puts me at risk of losing my EBT and insurance in October.
Even so, I feel deeply connected to this place. I’ve made close friends, found a community of amazing musicians, and I’m just starting to get gigs and establish myself here. I truly don’t want to walk away from that.
Right now, my main goal is simple: I only need to cover rent until I can get back on my feet. I’m saving for a car in the spring, but for now, my e-bike is my only transport.
