Recently, Rapid City area schools sent out a notice to every parent, warning that if past due amounts on their child’s lunch balance aren’t paid, the accounts will be sent to collections. As a community member, this just doesn’t sit right with me. No parent should have to worry about debt collectors simply because their child needed a meal at school. Every child deserves to eat, and every family deserves support, not added stress, especially during challenging times.
That’s why I’m starting this fundraiser—to help pay off student lunch balances for families in need. The funds raised here will go directly to Rapid City schools to clear these overdue balances, so parents can breathe a little easier and students can focus on learning, not lunch debt. We believe that all kids should be able to eat at school, and that parents shouldn’t be penalized for making sure their children are fed.
We would like to thank everyone who chooses to support this and let them know that all money raised goes directly to Rapid City schools, student lunch debt, and the effort to keep parents from going to collections during a time like this. It’s important that we stick together as a community. Your support means the world to these families, and together, we can make a real difference.
