Hi, my name is Shania and I’m fundraising for my family who have to fly from Adelaide to Melbourne to the children hospital over there to have open heart surgery for my 7

week old son Kaelan

On the 20th of December 2024 at 2 days old when we were getting discharged from hospital the paediatrician that came and done their checks on Kaelan noticed he had a heart murmur. 5 doctors later all said the same thing so they had a specialist come in and scan his heart finding a large whole in his heart ( VSD ) that is going to require surgery. They called the team at the WCH to have their head cardiologist look over the scans to see what to do next as they don’t do that operation here in Adelaide on babies.

On the 15th of January 2025 we had an appointment at the WCH to see the cardiologist they said if we don’t do this surgery Kaelan will not live pass 12months of age.. so for the surgery we have to fly

To Melbourne around 2/3 months of Kaelan’s age to have open heart surgery.

This as first time parents to a newborn this was much harder then you think to have to process. As we could be in Melbourne for 12 days up to 6weeks depending on how he recovers. Which is a big stress for us both as that means more time for mark to have off of work who has no leave left for time off work unless he takes leave without pay which he’ll do to be with us but it’s been a very stressful 7 weeks.

We will hopefully have dates and more information when we go back to the cardiologist on the 18/2/25
