This beautiful girl was officially adopted from Clayton County Animal Control on 8/12 and was spayed by them on 8/15 after the family was told they couldn’t use their own personal vet. The surgery appointment length was listed as 17 minutes long. The surgery notes state that the dog had “tenderness around the incision site” but no other concerning info.
The dog was picked up from the shelter by her new family on 8/16, and noticed she had no e-collar on. The shelter didn’t mention anything about complications during or after the surgery. Several minutes after leaving the shelter, at a red light, one of the owners noticed that there was several inches of flesh hanging outside of the incision site.
The family stopped at a vet in Griffin immediately on the way home, and were told that it appeared to be a botched spay and the incision was also open, and that they needed to go to SAVES in Fayetteville right away for emergency surgery. The went immediately.
The vet at SAVES told them they could either euthanize her, or pay for a $4000 emergency surgery to correct the “butchery” this dog had gone through. The family didn’t hestitate to go through with the surgery but now they are left with a $4000 vet bill, not to mention a new furry friend with a long recovery ahead. Thankfully her intestines were not affected, but they will have to monitor closely moving forward. Clayton County Animal Control needs to be held accountable for butchering this poor dog and the stress and turmoil their family has gone through over the past 48 hours. They chose this shelter specifically knowing it’s high kill statistics and picked out the “smallest, saddest looking dog” to give a new life to but now face a $4000 bill.
Thanks in advance! And send all the love and healing vibes to NOVA and her new family as they recover from this ordeal ❤️ Thank you to everyone who’s offered to donate and help towards the $4000 bill at SAVES.
The family is overwhelmed by your love and support. ❤️
