Medical Debt Threatens a Palestinian Father’s Freedom

Hello friends,

I’m raising funds for someone I care about deeply in the West Bank. For cultural and security reasons, he has asked to remain anonymous, so I am managing this on his behalf.

He and his family lost their newborn baby at only 28 days old, after weeks of medical care. The hospital bills from that time are still unpaid, and the debt has become impossible for him to manage. Since October 7th, when work permits were revoked and the borders effectively closed, he has had no way to return to his job in construction. Like many families in the West Bank, his income disappeared overnight, leaving him with no realistic path to repay what he owes.

Because of this debt, he now faces the real risk of jail or restrictions on his movement. This can happen quickly where he lives, and there are few options available to delay or challenge it.

We are trying to raise 30,000 shekels (about $9,000 USD) to pay off the hospital and lift this burden. Clearing the debt would protect his freedom, allow him to move and work again when conditions change, and give his family the space to grieve and rebuild without fear.

I want to share why this matters to me personally. This family has shown me more generosity than I ever expected. They welcomed me into their home and treated me as someone who belonged there. Their kindness has been steady and genuine, offered even during their own hardest moments. Helping them now feels like a small way to honor the love, trust, and care they extended to me.

It is not easy for him to accept support, but the situation has reached a point with no alternatives. Lifting this debt will not take away their loss, but it will remove a heavy weight and allow him to move forward with dignity and stability.

If you are able to contribute, even a small amount, it will make a real and direct difference. If donating isn’t possible, sharing this with others also helps.

With gratitude,
Hannah
