Yogi is an emotional support animal at Lake Tahoe Community College. Every day he provides comfort and joy to students, staff, and faculty. He is absolutely loved by every single person he meets! But now he has a long recovery ahead of him, physically and emotionally, due to an unforeseen incident with another neighborhood dog.

 

On Sunday, March 6th, Yogi and his mom Mel were finishing up their afternoon walk at the golf course when a large, 150lb black and white sheepdog mix named Leonard chased Yogi down, puncturing and tearing Yogi's side. He was running for his life and the poor dog is traumatized and now so is his owner. Per Animal Control, this isn't the first time Leonard has attacked another dog, with another incident just two weeks ago on Meyers Grade.

 

Because of the attack, Yogi needed emergency surgery at Carson Tahoe Vet to repair the wound. He needed 16 staples and a drain, not to mention he's taking 6 medications every 12 hours (antibiotics, anti-inflammatories, and pain medications). This type of wound requires him to wear protective clothing, and be accompanied by Mel 24/7 or wear a cone so he doesn't tear out the staples prior to healing.

 

At the scene of the incident, Leonard's owner provided her phone number, saying she'd pay for the vet bills and gas to drive back and forth to Carson for the follow up visits. Well, the owner of Leonard has gone radio silent and no money has been contributed to the cause... so now we're raising money to help pay for Yogi's ongoing, unexpected medical bills.
