Where to begin....
I am unfortunately writing this with a very broken and sad heart...
Our Mom has been diagnosed with Cancer again(2nd time).
5 years later...
She had major surgery (back in May) to
remove a large tumor that was found and it came back as Stage 4. Although they got it all in that area, they found numerous small lesions in her Abdomen that were also Stage 4.
We had seen an Oncologist and he did not recommend Chemotherapy (as it made her have a Cognitive Impairment (that isn't reversable)...back in 2015 when she did it before.
He did say she could have choosen to have it, but it would only prolong her life by a few months...and she would have had side effects that she didn't have in her previous treatments.
They weren't sure, or couldn't tell how long someone has when they have this type of cancer. So she chose not to have it, and enjoy life to the fullest, while she could.
In December, she had started to cough and her Palliative Dr thought she had Post Nasal Drip, so put her on a steroid nasal spray. After a month, it was not helping at all.
On Friday January 15th, she became very sick, I had to call an ambulance and they took her to Emerg.
They did an Xray of her chest, which the Dr saw a spot on her lungs. He then called in a specialist to do a CT Scan of her lungs and it is the worst news that anyone wants to hear.
Our Mom has so many lesions of cancer in both lungs and some fluid around her right lung.
We all are beyond devastated with this sad news.
She stayed in hospital for a week, on Oxygen to help her breathe easier and a Medication called Acetylcysteine (Mucomyst) 2x a day that helped break up mucous in her lungs. It is now needed at home and the Government does not cover it.(Once open, it lasts 96 hours, even if it isn't empty). So... $52.61 to buy this medication (that she has to have) every 4 days is something we just cannot afford and I don't know what to do... She can't not have it...
*So money raised will first go toward this medication*
She has to always be on oxygen now and came home last week, to be here for her remaining time. The Dr cannot give a time frame, It could be weeks or a few months they said.
We just don't know...
We are beyond broken and feel so helpless with this news...
We want to be able to give her the best quality of life now and really need your help.
Being Mom's full-time Caregiver for the past 5 years, I do not have an income, They don't pay anyone here in Ontario to take care of your elderly frail/sick parents... (I do recieve $700 a month from Ontario Works, and that unfortunately, all goes to pay rent).
I have looked into everything and anything over the past 5 years. I am just at a loss...
Mom has a special diet now as she also has Dysphagia,(foods that she is able to eat has to be minced/pureed) she has a hard time swallowing, even water. (If swallowed wrong, it can aspirate into lungs)
We have to purchase items for her bed, personal briefs and other items also for mom.
I would never ask for anything from anyone if I didn't feel as though this is a desperate situation at this point.
I know times are hard for everyone right now, especially during covid...
If you feel you would be able to donate anything at all towards helping Mom, we would be extremely and forever grateful.
Please Share and keep Sharing this as much as you possibly can.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts
Xoxo

May you be Blessed and Stay Safe.
