On the 25th of December, 2015, I received a little paper slip that my mother had made saying that I had a "1 free puppy ticket". Being 16 at the time, I had begged and begged my mother for a dog. After researching for weeks, I finally found a litter of puppies on Gumtree. There were 3 boys and 1 little girl. We rushed over to the breeder and picked her up that day. From that day forth, she was my best friend and soulmate. I named her after what she brought me and would continue to bring me for years to come. 'Lowen' meaning happiness <3
Lowen's life started on November 16th, 2015 in a little suburb of Capalaba, QLD. She's been with me for 8 years now, helping me with regulating my emotions, motivating me to do things I'd never done before, being there for me through my first breakup (and unfortunately a couple others), and just recently, was there for me during moving out of my mothers for the first ever time. She has been a constant comforting presence in my life and I don't know what I would do without her.
She developed a lump on her leg about 2 years ago. My mother worked for an animal welfare organisation at the time and had one of her colleagues look at it. I trusted them when they told us it was just a fatty lump that was common for her breed. Fast forward to just recently, I had noticed it got slightly larger in a small amount of time so I rushed her to the vet. That was when she was diagnosed with a Grade 3 Mast Cell Tumour. Since then, I've tried getting her all the help I can get her, but with a mortgage in this current climate I find myself struggling to make even some bills meet.
We've got her seeing an Oncologist now, who's helping us massively. While we thought that the cost would be around $17,000, we've gotten the good news that the Cancer was localised in her leg. However we need to act so that it doesn't spread to throughout. I've updated the fundraising goal to accurately reflect the costs.
What will happen for her now is she will receive 2 doses of Chemotherapy treatment before going into surgery to remove any remaining tissue. The Specialists are then going to use some loose skin from the surrounding area to cover it. After that, she receives a few more doses of Chemotherapy treatment.
I find it uncomfortable asking people for money, however for her I would move the stars and earth to have her by my side even for just a second longer.
$6,000-7,000 will be going towards the surgery to remove the current cancerous tissue. (They will be using skin from the surrounding area to make up for the skin lost on her leg)
$900-$1000 is for per treatment of Chemotherapy. She's expected to go through 2 doses before the surgery, and then a few after that as well.
A special thank you to the Specialist, Dr Kathleen O'Connell at the ARH as well.
