Hi there,
This is our gorgeous little boy Harvey, photo is of Harvey is his post cancer surgery suit last year. He is a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel who we adopted from a small charity based rescue centre when he was 9 months old.
Harvey is now 10 years old and such a loving little boy, he recently had his birthday, he's a big fan of birthdays and Christmas and fun in general.
Harvey though hasn't been having the best time the last couple of years.
Last January he was due to have his front right leg amputated as he had a cancerous tumor, thankfully though our vet managed to operate and save his leg when removing the tumour and the cancer has been kept at bay which is such a huge relief and we are so grateful for the vets care and compassion. This was covered mainly by Harvey's insurance but we still had to pay a large amount towards the bill and ongoing medication he needed.
Now however our poor Harvey has been diagnosed with a grade 3 heart murmur (Cavvies are prone to them) he now lives with heart failure disease and requires heart medication to keep his condition stable and to keep him actually alive.
He has all the symptoms such as strained coughing and he's so lethargic and just not himself, he has fallen over a few times which is very worrying , these are apparently all the signs of a very poorly little boy, we are so worried about him (I've added a full symptom checker below for you to check your gorgeous doggos)
The medication he needs is daily for the rest of his life.
He desperately needs a scan on his heart by a specialist vetinarian cardiologist to determine any enlargement of his heart, leaking valves etc and to what extent so that his heart medication can be planned going forward.
Currently his medication is £100 a month, he has to take 2 tablets a day. The scan has been estimated at £1300 plus the referral cost.
He will need a follow up scan at least twice a year to review his treatment. (The vets have said monthly scans are preferable).
The insurance refuse to pay any costs at all as they say Harvey had the murmur when we got him and so it's an existing illness, we pay quite a hefty fee for his insurance each month so this is a real blow and our financial situation isn't able to support these unexpected costs.
Harvey like everyone's dogs is one of the family, we can't imagine life without him. We have had family bereavements in the last year and with covid we couldn't attend the funerals. It's Harvey who has helped us cope with those losses. He has been our rock and he particularly has helped his daddy with his own recent heart disease diagnosis.
We love him so much as you all understand I'm sure and we just want to get him happy and healthier again so he can enjoy life!
He's such a brave little fighter and he is so full of love.
Harvey and ourselves would appreciate every single penny donated to help keep him alive and enjoying life and we thank you so much for reading and caring , much love and blessings from Harvey and his mummy, daddy and sister xxxxx
Below are the signs Harvey had that alerted us that he had a serious illness.
Signs of heart problems in your pet include:
*Slowing or stopping on walks
*Heavy breathing or breathlessness
*Breathing a lot faster than normal, even when they’re resting
*Coughing
*Falling over or fainting suddenly (often while exercising or excited)
*A bloated stomach (caused by fluid build-up in the abdomen)
If you notice any of these symptoms especially if your furry friend is a CKCS then please see your Vetinary surgeon immediately.
